CEBU CITY – Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan has vowed to give burial assistance to the family of three airmen from Mactan Island who died when a C-130 plane crashed in Patikul, Sulu on July 4.
Chan said the city will give PHP8,000 each to the family of the three soldiers who were residents of Lapu-Lapu City.
Initial report said Technical Sgt. Donald Badoy, Staff Sgt. Jan Niel Macapaz, and Airman 1st Class Fortunate Regidor were among the 49 military personnel killed in the incident.
Macapaz was a resident of Sitio Matumbo, Barangay Pusok, Badoy was from Sagi Gate in Barangay Pajo and Regidor was from Sitio Mahayahay in Barangay Bankal.
Macapaz’s 66-year-old mother, Teofista, reminisced about her son when interviewed over a television news program, saying she could barely shed a tear despite mourning her loss.
“His family was hoping he would come back as they were planning to bond in Cordova with his wife and two children,” she said.
Teofista said she received information from the Philippine Air Force (PAF) on July 5 confirming that her son was among those who died in the accident.
A PAF officer told the Philippine News Agency that they are still waiting for the remains of the airmen to arrive at the Mactan-Benito Ebuen Air Base. (PNA)
