MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said it is working with other agencies to protect officials of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF ELCAC) from possible attacks.
“The NTF ELCAC spokesperson (Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy) must have basis in revealing the ‘Oplan Delta’ which as reported came from intelligence reports. The PNP is currently processing the report and coordinating with other intelligence units so that we could come up with plans and activities that would shield the purposes of NTF ELCAC from any obstacles,” PNP chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement.
Eleazar, however, said no amount of demolition jobs or assassination plots will hamper the goal of the government’s anti-insurgency body which is to foster lasting peace and development.
In a virtual briefing on Monday, Badoy, NTF ELCAC spokesperson on Social Media and Sectoral Concerns, said an intelligence report indicates “Oplan Delta” was hatched recently in Quezon City by National United Front Commission (NUFC) head Nathaniel Santiago of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).
The “Oplan Delta”, Badoy said, is a series of slanderous attacks targeting NTF ELCAC spokespersons.
The intelligence report added that other high-ranking party members of the communist terrorist groups (CTGs) like Maria Sol Taule, who acts as a lawyer for NPA members and the party-list group Karapatan, participated in the meeting to hatch the plan.
Badoy said a committee was formed against each NTF ELCAC spokesperson to spread propaganda and “to create the most outrageous lies with the goal of inflicting the most damage on the spokesperson assigned to that committee in a bid to destroy our credibility”.
The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines. (PNA)
