LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — The “only fools don’t change their minds” adage aptly describes the decision of “third force” Team Abtik in this city to shift its support from Davao City Sara Duterte-Carpio to Senator Manny Pacquiao for possible presidential bid, citing common advocacy in fighting corruption in government.
This developed as the Youth Reform Movement (YRM), a group that supported the presidential bid of late former Senator Miriam Santiago in 2016, expressed dismay over the People’s Reform Party’s (PRP) support of Duterte-Carpio if she runs for president in next year’s polls.
“We strongly support Senator Manny Pacquiao’s fight against corruption and the assertion of our national sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea. He himself serves as a living example that nothing is impossible if we have strong faith and commitment to achieve change for the better,” Team Abtik said in a statement.
Meanwhile, a Facebook account supposedly belonging to Defensor-Santiago’s younger sister Paula Knack Defensor questioned what Duterte-Carpio would “reform” if she goes with PRP.
“We were really disappointed kasi alam naman namin sa organization, the things that Miriam Santiago stood for are not aligned with the current agendas, projects of the government,” YRM secretary general Julius Romel Fernandez also lamented. (ai/mtvn)
