LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Just like the rock song “Final Countdown,” Senator Manny Pacquiao has to face the “day of reckoning” on July 17 which is being trumpeted by the “expelled” officials of the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
Rumored to join Lakas-CMD, Cusi reportedly laughed off the order to oust them by party president Pacquiao and announced that the general assembly on July 17 will push through. But on Saturday, July 11, the pro-Pacquiao faction also showed grim determination to fight.
“Hindi naman po titigil ang PDP-Laban sa ilalim ng pamumuno din ni Sen. Pacquiao at sa gabay po ni Sen. Koko Pimentel para ibigay ang laban sa kanila. Hindi po ganun (The PDP-Laban under the leadership of Sen. Manny Pacquiao and with the guidance of Sen. Koko Pimentel, will not stop and would not just give this fight away.), vowed Pines Arcega, chair of PDP-Laban’s National Education Committee and National Executive Committee.
Pimentel has favored Pacquiao over “outsider” Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in the event that the ruling party has to name its standard bearer for the 2022 polls.
Meanwhile, Lakas-CMD president House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez has expressed support for Duterte-Carpio if she runs for president.
Some political analysts predicted that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte may bolt out of PDP-Laban if Pacquiao is not ousted by July 17. (ai/mtvn)
