MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued two fishermen in waters off Calatagan, Batangas earlier this week.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the PCG said the two fishermen, 27-year-old Fernan Cantoja and 21-year-old Jayson Lidores, were rescued at the vicinity waters off the Cape Santiago Light Station after their motorbanca capsized on Monday.
PCG Station Batangas, led by its commander, Capt. Geronimo Tuvilla, received a report from the Vessel Traffic Monitoring System-Batangas about a capsized motorbanca in their area of responsibility.
“The PCG Station Batangas relayed said information to PCG Sub-Station Calatagan for the dispatch of a search and rescue (SAR) team onboard Coast Guard aluminum boat, AB-179,” the PCG said.
Despite “strong waves and wind conditions” in the area, it said the SAR team was able to find and rescue the two fishermen.
“The rescued individuals were brought to safety, assessed, and properly turned over to their families, while their capsized motorbanca was towed back to shore,” the PCG said.
Tuvilla reminded fishermen and other seafarers to “prioritize their personal safety” by not venturing out to sea during bad weather or sea condition. (PNA)
