TACLOBAN CITY – More patients in Eastern Visayas have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as the region intensifies its vaccination rollout, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday.
Another 234 new recoveries raised the region’s total tally to 39,746 recoveries, representing 94.95 percent of a total of 41,858 cases recorded since the pandemic started last year, the DOH said in its daily update sent to reporters.
“The region has a high recovery rate and a high percentage of asymptomatic or mild patients, but we continue to remind the public not to be complacent,” DOH regional information officer Jelyn Lopez Malibago said.
The majority of cases are managed in local community isolation units and temporary treatment and monitoring facilities but transferred to a higher health care facility if further medical help is needed, according to the DOH.
Meanwhile, 287 new infections raised the active case count to 1,650 while three new fatalities increased the death toll to 462.
Malibago said they have been intensifying its vaccination drive to prevent hospitalization and deaths due to coronavirus.
Aggressive vaccine strategies are pursued by the DOH in the region as it received a total of 1,001,670 doses of Covid-19 vaccines.
“This number is still expected to grow due to additional vaccine deliveries allocated for the region and is set to arrive within the month,” Malibago said.
As of Aug. 26, there are 560,092 individuals who received their first jab of Covid-19 vaccine while 259,662 have received completed doses and are now fully vaccinated. (PNA)
