MANILA — Department of Trade and Industry Sec. Ramon Lopez on Saturday (04 Sept. 2021) said the Inter-Agency Task Force has approved a granular lockdown status starting Wednesday (08 Sept. 2021) for Metro Manila or the National Capital Region.
Guidelines of which, however, are yet to be finalized the trade chief stressed in a radio interview over DZBB.
Under granular lockdowns, only areas with high incidents of COVID-19 will be subjected to hard lockdown while the rest of the capital region will be under the more lenient general community quarantine.
Basically, the main idea of granular lockdowns is to keep the economy alive and rolling.
“Granular lockdowns will allow some more jobs to be back, those outside the hotspot areas,” Lopez said.
Granular lockdowns have been implemented in areas in Metro Manila and outside NCR before.
Lopez explained that these places surrounding the hotspots may apply varying levels of restrictions (levels 1,2,3,4) and they may only include a group of houses or a subdivision, instead of an entire barangay, Lopez added.
For his part, Malacanang spokesperson Harry Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to approve the granular lockdown implementation even as Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the IATF is still planning to restrategize its implementation.(ai/mtvn)
