MANILA — Labor Secretary Silvestre “Bebot” Bello III emphasized the importance of the construction and manufacturing workers who are considered as the backbone of the country’s economy.
The Labor chief said that these essential workers should be considered also as front liners because without them, the economy will not be active and it will really affect the livelihood of our countrymen as well as the government services.
“Kaya kayo dapat A1. Finally, they (other government agencies) realized the value of our workers (You should belong to the A1 category. Finally they realized the value of our workers),” Bello said in his speech in front of the workers and respected guests during the launch of the 1-Million Jobs for 2021 Construction and Manufacturing Vaccination Program today (September 8) at DOLE Central Office.
Bello said that while the health workers are front liners of the medical field, the construction workers and manufacturing laborers are the front liners of the economy so we must take care of both of them.
More or less 225,000 workers will get their jabs on this vaccination program with an initial of 1,100 workers to have their first dose today and the second dose will be scheduled on October 6.
The above-mentioned vaccination program was under the National Employment Recovery Strategy (NERS) Task Force chaired by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and co-chaired by the Departments of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Tourism (DOT).
Other partners include the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP); the Philippine Constructors Association; the local government of Manila; among others.
The event was sponsored by the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry; Globe Telecoms; and Intramuros administration.
Bello once again thanked vaccine czar Secretary Charlie Galvez for granting their request on behalf of the construction and manufacturing industries. (ai/mtvn)
