MANILA — It may not be fielding a complete senatorial slate in 2022 but the electorate can expect from the PDP-Laban faction of Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi a mix of Cabinet secretaries and House lawmakers allied with President Duterte in next year’s national political exercise.
As twin typhoons Kiko and Jolina pummel Luzon with heavy rains, the Cusi’s PDP-Laban side on Wednesday announced its initial Senate slate during its national convention attended by officials led by party chairman President Rodrigo Duterte.
PRRD earlier accepted his nomination as the party’s vice-presidential bet even as Sen. Bong Go declined the party’s offer to be its presidential candidate.
Nevertheless, the Cusi faction’s initial slate includes:
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III
Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade
Leyte 4th district Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque
Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar
Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission Commissioner Greco Belgica
House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta
According to Cusi, the last four are guest candidates.
As this developed, the faction has filed a motion for the Commission on Elections to declare the other half of the divided PDP-Laban camp of senators Manny Pacquiao and Aquilino Pimentel III as “illegitimate.”
