MANILA — Now it can be told. Officially.
The PDP-Laban faction of Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi has on Wednesday formally announced Sen. Bong Go as its official candidate for president in the 2022 elections and President Rodrigo Duterte as the vice-presidential bet.
Proclamation of the standard-bearers took place in Pampanga where the faction held a national convention organized by Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi as twin typhoons Kiko and Jolina pummeled many parts of Luzon.
Duterte attended the convention.
Also proclaimed during the convention were the group’s official senatorial candidates in the 2022 national political exercise.
And this includes Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III, Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Sal Panelo, and Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez.
Also named were Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Public Works Sec. Mark Villar, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Greco Belgica, and Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta.
Duterte again accepted his nomination and thanked his party mates saying it would allow him “to continue serving the Filipino people and lead the entire nation to greater progress.”
“To the newly proclaimed candidates, my fellow party officials and members, let us remain united and focused on achieving our mission to improve the quality of life of every Filipino especially as we continue to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic,” Duterte added.
For his part, Senator Bong Go maintained that he has no interest in running for president.
“Unahin niyo na lang po ang may gusto. Ang importante ay hanapan natin ng katimbang si Pangulong Duterte upang maipagpatuloy ang pagbabago. Yun ang continuity na inaasam natin,” Go said.
“I have already respectfully declined your endorsement through a letter I sent last week. I am hoping that the party will continue to respect my decision.” (ai/mtvn)
