Signal No. 1 up in parts of Luzon due to ‘Jolina’, ‘Kiko’

MANILA – Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 has been hoisted over some parts of Luzon due to Tropical Storm Jolina and Typhoon Kiko, a weather forecaster said Thursday.

TCWS No. 1 due to “Jolina” is in effect over the western portion of Pangasinan (Anda, Bolinao, Infanta, Aguilar, Sual, Labrador, Dasol, Bugallon, Burgos, Mabini, Agno, City of Alaminos, Bani, Lingayen, Mangatarem) and the northern portion of Zambales (San Antonio, Botolan, San Narciso, San Felipe, Cabangan, Palauig, Iba, Masinloc, Candelaria, Santa Cruz).

The eastern portion of Cagayan (Buguey, Lal-Lo, Santa Teresita, Gonzaga, Santa Ana, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca) and the northeastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, San Pablo, Cabagan, Palanan) are also under TCWS due to “Kiko”.

These areas may experience strong winds. The TCWS hoisted due to “Jolina” may be lifted later in the day, according to Benison Estareja of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

“Jolina may intensify again into a severe tropical storm. It is likely to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday,” Estareja said.

Light to moderate, with at times heavy rains may be experienced over Zambales, Bataan, and Pangasinan.

Estareja said residents of these areas must take precautions against possible flash floods) landslides.

“Other areas that were affected by ‘Jolina’ yesterday, Calabarzon, Bicol region will have fair weather. Only isolated rains are expected,” he said.

“Jolina” was last seen 145 km. west-northwest of Iba, Zambales, or 175 km. west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan. It packs maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

Typhoon Kiko, on the other hand, packs maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 230 kph.

It is expected to bring heavy rains in Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, and northern Isabela starting Friday.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas.

Over Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, based on PAGASA’s forecast. (PNA)
