MANILA — The Department of Health on Saturday registered a single-day high record of 26,303 new positive cases of the coronavirus, beating the previous record high of 22,820 cases tallied just two days ago.
It was also the highest so far in one single day of positive cases of the virus since the outbreak of Covid-19 in March 2020.
With it, the day’s spike shoved up the active cases the country has to 185,706 and so with the total cumulative number since Day 1 at 2,206,021.
Fatalities were monitored at 79 deaths even as the recoveries reached 16,013 for a total of 34,978 and 1,985,337 respectively.
The DOH explained that out of the 26,303 records, 1,608 were included from Friday’s tally but the health agency said the 24,695 actual cases for the day would still beat the previous record logged two days ago.
Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration last week cleared Moderna for emergency use on 12 to 17 year-olds as more young people are catching the virus.
To that effect, the city of Manila has started accepting vaccine pre-registration for minors even as authorities are yet to give the greenlight for the jabs. (ai/mtvn)
