LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – “No retreat, no surrender” seems to be the rallying cry of Hugpong Para Kay Sara (HPS), composed of individuals and groups that are still pushing the feisty presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to run for president in 2022 national and local elections.
HPS spokesperson Bagong Henerasyon Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy said their group will proceed with its launch on Monday, September 13, despite Duterte-Carpio’s earlier pronouncement that she will no longer seek the presidency next year after her father President Rodrigo Roa Duterte accepted the nomination of his faction in PDP-Laban to run for vice president.
“We still believe she (Duterte-Carpio) is the most qualified to lead our nation for the next six years,” Herrera-Dy said on Sunday.
She added that the HPS was organized “with the express purpose of providing research and support to Mayor Duterte to help her decide to throw her hat into the presidential derby next year.”
“We share a common aspiration: to effect true and lasting change for the country. We believe Mayor Sara is the perfect person with her personality and being confident yet quiet and reserved,” Herrera-Dy stressed.
If Mayor Sara imitates his father and changes her mind, some groups are pushing for former Senator Bongbong Marcos to be her vice presidential running mate. (ai/mtvn)
