ILOILO CITY – Households are encouraged to join the third quarter virtual nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill (NSED) that will be held at 9 a.m. on Sept 16.
Cindy Ferrer, information officer and spokesperson for the Office of the Civil Defense in Western Visayas (OCD 6) said that with the threat of health pandemic, the NSED will just be focusing on the exercise of duck, cover, and hold.
“Parents and children who are in their homes are encouraged to participate,” she said in an interview on Tuesday.
Meantime, there is no evacuation drill in compliance with the minimum public health standards to avoid mass gatherings.
She added that since last year holding the exercise is a challenge but while under the pandemic, they have no choice but to adjust.
“It is different when we used to have exercises on rescue, and scenarios on road, buildings, and collapsed structure with responders,” she said.
She added that there is an initial plan to have the drills back on the fourth quarter NSED.
The ceremonial pressing of the button will be streamed via Zoom or Facebook pages of the Civil Defense PH which is being looped with the FB page of the OCD 6 (Western Visayas), National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), and YouTube channels. (PNA)
