MANILA — Around 50 families residing in the mountains of Barangay Culandanum, Bataraza, are now experiencing comfort after a 200-meter road project was constructed which connects them to the Poblacion area.

The project according to the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) improved the daily lives of the indigenous people in the community of IP Kulimbawang, Sitio Panas, Brgy. Culandanum as it will be easier for them to bring their goods to the market.

The road was completed and opened for the public’s access on August 31.

This project showed how responsible mining helps the community. Not only by giving livelihood to the people but also by providing social development that will be very beneficial to them in the long run.

The mining company in Palawan has also turned an uninhabited area into a bustling community of over 17,000 people, which is now a first-class municipality in the province.

Responsible mining is when appropriate international standards are being followed, best mining practices are used, and most importantly, looking after the welfare of mining employees, the communities, and the environment. (ai/mtvn)
