MANILA — The Provincial Government of Batanes under Executive Order No. 25, 2021, has placed the entire province under Enhance Community Quarantine status from September 18, 2021 to October 4, 2021, due to rising Covid-19 cases.
The province has also canceled all inbound passenger flights until further notice.
“As of September 18, 2021, our quarantine and isolation facilities including the Batanes General Hospital has reached their maximum capacity. Also, the province can no longer accommodate inbound passengers who are still required to undergo mandatory facility-based quarantine pursuant to local protocols,” Batanes Governor Marilou H. Cayco stated.
“The ECQ status will allow our overwhelmed health workers and front liners to focus on managing the first ever Covid-19 community transmission and the present surge of cases in the province.”
Cayco also appealed to residents for their patience and understanding as the local government is doing its best to control and prevent the spread of the virus.
As of September 20, 2021, the Department of Health – Regional Office 2 recorded a total of 100 new confirmed cases in the province. Batanes now has 138 total confirmed cases with 121 active cases and 17 recoveries. There is no casualty reported.
Municipalities with the highest number of active cases are Basco with 94 current active cases followed by Uyugan with 10, Mahatao and Itbayat with 6 cases each, Sabtang – 4 and Ivana with 1 case. (ai/mtvn)
