LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Just because Senator Manny Pacquiao ignored Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s challenge to a public debate, the self-proclaimed “appointed Son of God” said he will run for president too.
Quiboloy, leader of the religious sect Kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Name Above Every Name, said instead of answering his challenge to a public debate, Pacquiao filed a P100-million libel case against him.
Pacquiao had filed a P100-million libel and cyber libel case with the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office on Sept. 14 against Quibuloy, who also claimed to be the “Owner of the Universe,” for his television appearance and social media post accusing the living world boxing legend of misusing government funds in the unfinished construction of the Sarangani Sports Training Center that the religious leader said was worth ₱3.5 billion.
The senator drew the ire of Quibuloy, a longtime close friend of Duterte, after the lawmaker alleged there was a “web of corruption” in the outgoing Duterte administration.
Pacquiao, who had served as a representative of Sarangani, maintained that the dilapidated buildings shown by Quiboloy were decades-old facilities, and the ₱3.5 billion budget was for a sports training center in Bataan, which he was not involved in.
The sect leader also criticized Pacquiao’s earlier discriminatory remarks against the LGBT community, which the presidential aspirant clarified he had been taken out of context in an interview with showbiz personality Toni Gonzaga.
Quibuloy further claimed that he would be very capable of running for president even if he does not have a political party.
“Partido ko ang Dios (God is my political party),” he declared. (ai/mtvn)
