CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – More than PHP5 million worth of marijuana was seized and three suspected drug peddlers were arrested in Mabalacat City on Friday.
Col. Arnold Thomas Ibay, provincial director of the Pampanga Police Provincial Office, said in a police report, the suspects were identified as Lianna Jess Maigne Dela Cruz, 18, and Jerthec Cris Lusung, 19, both of Barangay Sta. Teresita, and Filmar Lipasano, 44, of Barangay Balibago, both in Angeles City.
He said the three were about to pick up a cargo declared as “bananas” coming from Tabuk, Kalinga at the Victory Liner Drop and Go Station in Barangay Dau.
However, when bananas accidentally fell from one of the sacks, bus crew found the marijuana bricks and reported the incident to the police.
Ibay said members of the Drug Enforcement Unit, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company-Pampanga, Regional Intelligence Division and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-3 proceeded to the holding area of Victory Liner after receiving the call.
He said seized from the suspects were two sacks containing 44 bricks of dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops sealed with transparent plastic and mixed with bananas.
The bricks weighed more or less 44 kilograms with a Dangerous Drug Board-estimated value of PHP5,280,000, Ibay said.
The suspects will be charged with the violation of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
