COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MBHTE-BARMM), through its Technical Education and Skills Development (TESD) division, is targeting the establishment of Municipal Training Centers (MTCs) in the towns of Panglima Sugala and Simunul within this year.
MBHTE-BARMM Minister Mohagher Iqbal said Wednesday each MTC is worth PHP5 million, to be funded under the general appropriations of the MBHTE-TESD.
“The groundbreaking for the projects is set on the third week of October,” Iqbal said, quoting a statement issued by Dr. Maryam Nuruddin, MBHTE-TESD Tawi-Tawi director.
According to Nuruddin, the construction of the two MTCs is aimed at bringing government services closer to the people, helping intensify economic activities in the province, and delivering easier access to skills training.
“This will also boost Technical Vocational Education and Training services in the municipalities and enable the province to produce more skilled people ready for a job or livelihood after completion of the pieces of training,” she said.
She added that another PHP5 million has been allotted by the MBHTE-TESD for the tools and equipment of the MTC in Simunul.
Nuruddin pointed out that TESD Tawi-Tawi has implemented the United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP) Enhanced Manufacturing of Protective Wear and Equipment for Covid-19 Response in the Bangsamoro Region (Empower BARMM) initiative.
The program involved the selection of sewing groups that were given machines and raw materials to help dressmakers/tailors-turned-personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturers participate in producing them with sufficient means.
She said they have chosen two groups as training beneficiaries – the provincial policewomen organization and the Mana Tailoring Shop that will produce PPE to include face masks to help sustain the demand for protective wear in the region and other parts of the country. (PNA)
