MANILA — Quezon City is now on top of the list of local government units (LGUs) nationwide in terms of locally sourced revenues for fiscal year 2019, according to City Treasurer Ed Villanueva.
He attributed this latest achievement to the good governance initiatives implemented by Mayor Joy Belmonte adding that the people trust where their money goes and how it is disbursed.
“Mayor Belmonte’s good governance is the key to this enormous success, which then earns the unwavering support of businesses and the public,” Villanueva said.
Based on reports coming from the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) of the Department of Finance (DOF), Quezon City collected nominal LSRs of P16.95 billion in 2019.
The tax income came from real property tax, business tax, other taxes, and non-tax revenues.
Villanueva said that he is optimistic that the city will get the same recognition for the fiscal year 2020 and 2021 as the city “continues to hit and even surpass its own tax collection target.”
The Mayor’s decision to allow a staggered payment scheme for underdeclared and undeclared business taxes instead of hefty penalties also encouraged businessmen to settle their obligations.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa suporta at tiwala ng taxpayers sa ating administrasyon. Sinisiguro nating lahat ng nakolektang buwis ay ating ginagamit para lalong paigtingin at palawakin ang serbisyo para sa lahat ng QCitizens (We expressed our gratitude to the support and trust given by the taxpayers to our administration. We make sure that all of the paid taxes are being used to intensify and expand our services to all QCitizens),” said Belmonte. (ai/mtvn)
