Pacquiao Retires From Boxing, Will Fight For President

It really came as no surprise that the good Senator Manny Pacquiao will retire from boxing. With obvious tears flowing from his eyes, Manny Pacquiao formally announced his retirement from boxing last Wednesday. In his very emotional message of farewell, he said that it’s really difficult for him to accept that his time as a boxer is over. But as an international superstar and a household name in almost every country his unbelievable 8-division world title in this brutal sport of boxing, Pacquiao earned an amount that most athletes can only imagine and dream of.

There is nothing more for him to prove up the ring. Pacquiao will be a sure Hall of Famer and what he achieved in more than 2 1/2 decades of fighting will never be surpassed nor duplicated. His record feats will be enshrined in the Guinness Book Of records forever!

Twenty-six years since his first professional fight he could only dream of buying something but had no money for it. He even fought for only P50 just to put food on their table. His total earnings in his boxing career are hard to account for. Just imagine, for the Floyd Mayweather fight alone in 2015, he amassed an estimated $150 million (P7.5 billion) and what more from his income by fighting the countless best of the best and winning most of the time.

His almost 15 minutes of video of his retirement message was recorded in the comfort of his very elegant home said to be worth over P1.5 billion. His feats with his mitts will be very hard to match or surpass. Even his latest heroics winning the world welterweight at the age of more than 40 years is hard to imagine to be accomplished. On December 17, Pacquiao will turn 43, yet his age hardly shows in his last match against Cuban Yordenis Ugas, who won by a not-so-convincing unanimous decision with Pacman having cramps on both legs during the fight.

And now, at last, he just heard the final bell. “Tapos na ang boxing!” he said with voice cracking down. With the honors he brought to the country, it’s apt to call him “Pambansang Kamao” and a real living legend. Generation after generation, people in the world would always remember as “ Once upon a time, there was Manny Pacquiao!”
