LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – At long last, the long wait is over when former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday, October 5, announced he will run for president in 2022.
BBM – monicker of the late strongman Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Sr. — made the announcement in a Facebook video on the same day he took his oath as a member of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), a political party allied with the Duterte administration.
“I am announcing my intention to run for the Presidency of the Philippines in the upcoming 2022 elections,” BBM said.
He promised: “I will bring back a unifying form of leadership in the country.”
It can be recalled that last September 21, the PFP endorsed Marcos for the 2022 presidential race.
The endorsement was made on the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law by his late father who ruled the Philippines for more than 20 years.
Marcos lost the 2016 vice presidential race to then-Camarines Sur representative Leni Robredo by only 263,473 votes.
BBM lodged an electoral protest but the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), eventually ruled in Robredo’s favor. (ai/mtvn)
