‘Lannie’ continues to bring rains across PH

MANILA – The whole country will experience rains until Monday night due to Tropical Depression Lannie, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said “Lannie” has so far made eight landfalls.

Earlier, “Lannie” made landfall over Bucas Grande Island in Surigao del Norte; Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands; Liloan, Southern Leyte; and Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte.

From 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Pagasa said “Lannie” made landfall again over Mahanay Island, Talibon, Bohol; Banacon Island, Jetafe in Bohol; San Fernando, Cebu; and Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

“Rains will be experienced in the whole country from the afternoon until evening. Apart from ‘Lannie’, no weather disturbance is expected to affect the country,” Ariel Rojas of PAGASA said.

Moderate to heavy rains will continue to prevail over Western and Eastern Visayas, and Mimaropa.

Likewise, light to moderate, with at times heavy rains will continue over Calabarzon, Bicol region, Mindanao, and the rest of the Visayas.

Floods and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains hoisted over the southern portion of Masbate (Pio V. Corpuz, Cataingan, Palanas, Dimasalang, Uson, Mobo, Milagros, Mandaon, Esperanza, Placer, Cawayan, Balud), the southern portion of Romblon (Cajidiocan, San Fernando, Magdiwang, Santa Maria , Odiongan, Alcantara, Ferrol, Looc, Santa Fe, San Jose), the southern portion of Oriental Mindoro (Roxas, Mansalay, Bulalacao, Bongabong), the southern portion of Occidental Mindoro (Sablayan, Calintaan, Rizal, San Jose, Magsaysay) , and the northern portion of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Dumaran, Araceli) including Calamian and Cuyo Islands.

Also under TCWS No. 1 are Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, the northern and central portions of Negros Oriental (Bais City, Mabinay, City of Bayawan, Basay, City of Tanjay, Manjuyod, Bindoy, Ayungon, Tayasan, Jimalalud, La Libertad, City of Guihulngan, Vallehermoso, Canlaon City), Cebu, and Bohol.

Areas under TCWS no. 1 will experience strong breeze to near gale conditions, as well as occasional gusts.

“Lannie” was last tracked vicinity of Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, moving westward at 25 kilometers per hour.

The tropical depression packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

Moderate to rough seas will continue to prevail over the coastal waters of the country, especially in areas where TCWS no. 1 has been hoisted. PAGASA said these conditions are risky for those using small seacrafts, while mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to the sea. (PNA)
