COTABATO CITY – Responding to the call of a police official in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), a man in Maguindanao who owned an unlicensed foreign-made submachine gun showed up at a village hall and turned over his firearm to local officials.
Dhatz Toto showed up at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the office of Chairperson Abdullah Mangadad of Barangay Pagagawan in Datu Montawal town, carrying the firearm he was voluntarily yielding to authorities.
“He was carrying an Uzi machine pistol,” Mangadad told the PNA. “He politely handed over the gun with bullets to me.”
Mangadad turned over the 9mm Uzi to Lt. Nurjhasier Sali, Datu Montawal police chief.
“This is in support of the Police Regional Office–BARMM’s intensified and strict campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms,” Mangadad said.
The surrender of a gun from a civilian in Maguindanao came a day after Brig. Gen. Eden T. Ugale, PRO-BARMM director, appealed to all local politicians, candidates, and the public, in general, to support the campaign against loose firearms to ensure a peaceful and orderly election next year. (PNA)
