Noli de Castro bids goodbye to ABS-CBN to run for senator in the 2022 election

MANILA—ABS-CBN acknowledged “decades of service” of Noli “Kabayan” de Castro as a pioneer news anchor of the daily newscast TV Patrolin his last day on October 7 as a Kapamilya. He is eyeing a senate seat in the coming 2022 elections.

On the last gap of TV Patrol, it was recalled how he started as a broadcaster of DZMM when ABS-CBN opened after the EDSA Revolution in 1986.

It was in 1987 when he led as the main news anchor of the prime-time newscast TV Patrol.

Then in 1988, he became an for the weekly public affairs program Magandang Gabi… Bayan. He resigned from ABS-CBN in 2000 when he ran for senator.

He won in the 2001 elections and served as a senator until  2004. He became the country’s Vice President from 2004 up to 2010 and came back to ABS-CBN and TV Patrol in  2010.

Noli’s farewell message

After the AVP presentation of his services at ABS-CBN, Noli formally bade goodbye to the entire force of the ABS-CBN News, to the management and to all those he has worked with at the network.

“Matapos ang malalalim na pagsusuri at taimtin na pagdarasal, ako po ay nagdesisyong tumakbo bilang senador sa halalan sa susunod na taon.

“At dahil sa hakbang na ito, kinakailangan ko iwan ang TV Patrol at ang ABS-CBN para ipagpatuloy ang serbisyo publiko sa ibang larangan,” Noli said.

He also expressed that he poured out his all in every opportunity the company has given him.

“Lubos po akong nagpapasalamat sa maraming taon na tayo’y nagkasama sa bawat balita na inihandog ko sa inyo.

“Mula sa mga malagim na trahedya hanggang sa masayang kuwento ng tagumpay, ginawa ko po sa aking makakaya, ayon sa aming obligasyon na maghatid ng katotohanan.

“Masakit man ang magpaalam sa programang minahal ko at naging buhay ko, at sa mahabang samahan sa mga kapamilya sa ABS-CBN, ako’y humaharap sa mga hamon sa panibagong yugto sa aking buhay,” he added.

Noli also said that he is leaving “the new beginnings of TV Patrol” to the next generation of broadcasters and newscasters.

ABS-CBN accepts Noli’s decision

ABS-CBN accepted Noli’s decision to leave his job from the network.

Following are the official statement of the ABS CBN management which was sent to the Philippine Entertainment Portal last night.

“Our Kapamilya, Noli ‘Kabayan’ de Castro has informed us of his plan to run for public office in the coming 2022 national elections.

“We respect his personal decision and wish him well as he aims to continue his service to the nation as a government official.

“In adherence to our company policy, Kabayan will move on from his anchor duties in TV PatrolKabayan, and Teleradyo Balita once he formally files his certificate of candidacy.”

The management acknowledged Noli as one of the outstanding figure of ABS-CBN News.

“We thank Kabayan for his decades of service in ABS-CBN News, where he led iconic shows and spearheaded public service efforts while also serving as a mentor to generations of broadcast journalism in the organization.

“TV Patrol has endured because of the solid foundation he and the team of ABS-CBN news journalists have built on over the years—a process that will continue as we evolve and thrive during these changing times.” (ECD/MTVN)
