MANILA — Filipino League of Advocates for Good Governance-Maharlika (FLAG-Maharlika), a group that fights corruption, formally filed its certificate of candidacy (COC) for party-list in the May 9, 2022 elections before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the Harbor Garden Tent, Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.

FLAG-Maharlika is a regional organization of marginalized and under-represented professionals from the transport industry, vendors associations, solo parents, 4P’s members, senior citizens, the urban poor, and mainstream media among other sectors.

“FLAG-Maharlika has been fighting corruption for the past few years. Kilala kami sa paghahabla ng mga corrupt na official ng gobyerno,” Edwin Cordevilla, FLAG- Maharlika’s Secretary-General and first nominee told reporters at Hotel Sofitel Garden Tent in Pasay City.

Representing the Filipino people, Cordevilla believed that ending corruption will result in better opportunities and progress for the country especially now that millions of professionals lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic which greatly affected the country’s economic sector.

“Despite the challenges we are facing now. We believe, if we reduce corruption to its lowest level, we will be able to create jobs for our professionals. We will be able to create opportunities so that every household will have food on their table. We will be able to experience progress. We will be able to move forward and face the challenges with bravery and progress,” he said.

Since last year, the group has been going around the country extending aid to those who are in need, especially those who are greatly affected due to COVID-19.

“FLAG-Maharlika is in partnership with the government and people for change. We have a track record of only pursuing nothing but the truth,” Cordevilla said.

Aside from Cordevilla, Party’s other nominees are businessman Martin Nicolo Delos Angeles, former child actress, and commercial model Katrin Gonzales, veteran journalist Ismael Amigo and businessman Edwin Sarenas.

Even before the pandemic, the group has already launched free legal assistance to oppressed Filipinos, community service, skills upgrade training for solo parents and medical missions.

“Sana po makiisa tayo sa FLAG-Maharlika. Pagpatuloy ang pakikipaglaban, we move as one,” Cordevilla said.
