TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatics Resources (BFAR) – CALABARZON yesterday announced that the local government of Tagkawayan in Quezon was declared winner for the Search for Outstanding Coastal Municipality (Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan: MMK) Regional Level.
According to Dr. Sonia G. Olaivar-Elloso, Chief of Fisheries Management Regulatory and Enforcement Division (FMRED), a cash prize of P2,000,000.00 was given to Tagkawayan LGU plus they will compete for the National Level this November.
“Napakaganda ng mga inisyatiba ng liderato ni Mayor Carlo Eleazar sa sektor ng pangisdaan upang higit itong mapangalagaan at mapaunlad kabilang na ang tahasang pagpapatigil sa iligal na pamamaraan ng pangingisda at paglalaan ng pondo sa mga pangangalaga ng coastal communities,” Olaivar – Elloso stated.
Among the major programs of the town is the restriction of illegal fishing activities in all of its coastal waters, Mangrove Reforestation at strict enforcement of the Solid Waste Management Act. (ai/mtvn)
