With their parents or guardians seemingly unaware or unmindful of the dangers, these little girls and their “kuya” need an adult to look after them as they are precariously perched aboard a cruising “Kuliglig” or motorized pedicab along United Nations Avenue in Manila on Monday, October 11, 2021.
In contrast and fittingly enough, it was the very day the world was celebrating International Day of Girl Child (IDGC), an annual and internationally recognized observance every 11th day of October, drive for caring, empowering girls, and amplifying their voices.
It also acknowledges the importance, power, and potential of adolescent girls by encouraging the opening up of more opportunities for them.
This year’s IDGC carries a theme “Digital generation. Our generation.”
