‘Habagat’ to bring rains across Luzon, W. Visayas

MANILA – The southwest monsoon or “habagat”, enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm Kompasu (formerly “Maring”), will bring rains across Luzon and Western Visayas, the weather bureau said on Wednesday.

In its 4 a.m. weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Palawan and Occidental Mindoro will experience monsoon rains. Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains are possible.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Western Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon. Flash floods and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards.

“Maring” has moved away from the country, prompting PAGASA to lift all tropical cyclone wind signals, weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said.

It was last tracked at 765 km. west of Calayan, Cagayan.

The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas.

Over Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA)
