LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – Short of saying that Vice President Leni Robredo is a spoiler in the 2022 presidential race, former Liberal Party (LP) stalwart-turned-Aksyon Demokratiko leader for the National Capital Region (NCR), Caloocan 2nd District Rep. Edgar “Egay” Erice on Tuesday, October 13, said the 1Sambayan standard bearer is to blame if former Senator Bongbong Marcos wins.
Erice pointed out that even Robredo herself had previously admitted that if she runs for president, she might split the opposition vote.
“I hate to say this, pero kung makakabalik ang mga Marcos, kung makakabalik, kung magpapatuloy ang Duterte (it’s her fault),” the Caloocan solon said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel’s Headstart on Tuesday.
This developed as Ka Leody de Guzman, presidential bet of the Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM), assailed both the “tyrant” Duterte administration and the “elitist” LP and said the opposition forces have long been divided.
De Guzman, national chairman of the Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP), was picked as the standard-bearer of the pro-workers political party after the Laban ng Masa coalition, of which PLM is a member, was spurned by LP after trying to reach out for three months.
The PLM also expressed strong resentment against the return of the Marcoses in Malacañang.
Erice claimed that they did a study that showed that should Robredo back out from the presidential race, 90 percent of people who would have voted for her would pick Moreno instead.
He noted that in contrast, if Moreno withdrew his candidacy, the local executive’s voters would jump to Marcos.
“So actually do’n sa study namin, sa dami ng supporters ni President Duterte, lumalabas talaga na 29 percent ng population natin dislikes Vice President Leni. Unlike Isko, mga six percent lamang,” Erice said. (ai/mtvn)
