LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – Stressing that he deeply trusts his senatorial bets even if they will not campaign for him, socialist labor leader and presidential aspirant Leody de Guzman of Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM) on Saturday bared his preferred candidates for the Senate.

“Wala silang obligasyong dalhin ang aking kandidatura. Hindi ito transactional politics. Nagtitiwala ako sa kanilang hangarin para sa bayan (They don’t have an obligation to support my candidacy. This is not transactional politics. I believe in their advocacies for the country.),”De Guzman said.

De Guzman’s PLM partymates, labor leader Luke Espiritu, and environmentalists Roy Cabonegro and David D’angel led the nine-man senatorial slate.

The other “guest” senatorial candidates are former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares, Senator Leila De Lima of Liberal Party (LP), human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, Senator Risa Hontiveros of Akbayan, Kilusang Mayo Uno) KMU) chairperson Elmer Labog, and Federation of Free Workers (FFW) president and labor lawyer Sonny Matula.

Meanwhile, the Laban ng Masa coalition, of which PLM is a member, assailed Vice President Leni Robredo’s choices for her Senate slate, saying the lineup reeks of traditional Philippine politics, where the elections are reduced to a mere “game of numbers, popularity, and bailiwicks.” (ai/mtvn)
