MANILA — The provincial government of Batangas led by Governor Dodo Mandanas made a routine inspection on Sunday, 17 Oct 2021, on Taal volcano and local government units located near it to ensure their readiness and safety in case of another eruption occurs.
Mandanas and his team visited the municipality of San Nicolas to personally assess the present situation on the ground and assure residents and local officials that the provincial government is ready to provide immediate support as the need be.
The governor also visited other towns in Laurel, Talisay, and several barangays of Tanauan City located on Taal Lake.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) yesterday reported Taal Volcano emitted 23,576 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2), the second-highest recorded SO2 emission against the 25,456 tons emitted on October 5, 2021.
Alert Level 2 is currently in effect and residents are advised to be always on the alert as the volcano continues its aggressive activity. (ai/mtvn)
