LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – Saying that he would like to see taxes slashed than imposing high taxes that will only be stolen by politicians, presidential aspirant Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Thursday promised before an audience of farmers that he will cut excise taxes on oil and electricity by 50 percent if he is elected president.
“If given a chance, palarin ako, ang unang-una kong gagawin is babawasan ko nang 50% ang buwis ng langis… 50% tax cuts sa kuryente, at sigurado ako para ko nang binigyan ng ayuda hanggang bundok ng Tralala,” Moreno said in a dialogue with farmers in Barangay Banaba, Tarlac.
The audience roared in approval, cheering the 46-year-old mayor of Manila and whose late parents came from Antique and Northern Samar.
“Mas gugustuhin ko na bawasan ang buwis kaysa sa kunin ang buwis na malaki tatapos nanakawin lang ng mga politico parang lokohan ng ayuda lokohan sa kalsada. Ngayon, hawak ninyo ang pera,” Moreno further said.
The Aksyon Demokratiko presidential bet made the promise after oil companies increased prices of petroleum products on Tuesday, October 19.
Moreno had also promised a healing president if he wins next year as he stressed that he will be guided by the rule of law and not a political vendetta.
“Ang mga magnanakaw, papanagutin. Ang mga pumatay, papanagutin. Ang mga gumawa ng pera sa panahon ng pandemya, papanagutin. Pero ayaw kong maging katulad nila na kaya lang papanagutin kasi kalaban sa pulitika (Those who stole, those who killed, those who malversed during the pandemic should be made answerable. But I don’t want to be like the others who will do so just that because they are political rivals),” the Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer said.
He cited his 2019 mayoral battle with political giants former president Joseph Estrada and the late Alfredo Lim.
Moreno was quick to extend a hand of reconciliation to Estrada and Lim after winning as mayor of the country’s capital city. (ai/mtvn)
