LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Did the “Favorite Son of the North” and the “Eagle from the South” meet to seal a deal of forging what others consider an unbeatable tandem in the 2022 presidential polls?

This question swirled in Metro Cebu composed of this highly urbanized city and Mandaue City and Cebu City as former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was warmly welcomed by his Cebuano supporters on Friday morning, October 22, and later in the afternoon presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio also arrived ostensibly to talk to her cousin Cebu 5th District Board Member Red Duterte.

“Confirmed po ang aking pagbisita sa Cebu. Kausap ko ngayon ang aking pinsan na si Cebu 5th District Board Member Red Duterte (My visit to Cebu is confirmed. I am talking with my cousin, Cebu 5th District Board Member Red Duterte.),” Duterte-Carpio said.

Some 300 individuals supporting Marcos’ presidential run greeted him at the old Mactan-Mandaue Bridge at past 9 a.m. and then he went straight to attend the opening of the headquarters for his campaign.

By noon, Marcos paid a courtesy call on Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Meanwhile, born-again Christian preacher Grepor “Butch” Belgica, the presidential candidate of the political party Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), on Friday expressed willingness to “give way” in case the presidential daughter decides to seek the highest government post.

“Ang totoo po niyan ay nag-appeal po kami sa kaniya (The truth is we made an appeal to her) formally and officially to consider (running for president). And we are willing to give way to her,” said Belgica who is also the Presidential Adviser on Religious Affairs and father of Greco Belgica, current chair of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), and Jeremiah Belgica who is the director-general of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA).
