CAMIGUIN, Northern Mindanao – Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur M. Tugade yesterday led the inauguration of the upgraded Camiguin Airport as well as the launching of the Service Contracting and “Libreng Sakay” Programs in the island province.
These transport infrastructure initiatives, in coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), were perfectly in sync for the reopening of Camiguin more than a year after closing its borders due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hindi magbabayad ng pamasahe kung kayo ay essential worker, kung kayo ay health frontliner, kung kayo ay authorized person outside of residence,” he explained on the use of 35 jeep units of Camiguin Transport Cooperative (CAMTRANSCO) for the Service Contracting and Free Ride Programs.
With the airport and road projects of the DOTr, Camiguin is now ready to reopen its economy and welcome again tourists, ushering recovery and growth in the island.
“We remain committed to completing transformational and game-changing projects and initiatives aimed at fulfilling the promise of a comfortable life for Filipinos across regions,” Tugade concluded. (ai/mtvn)
