LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – Divorce, same-sex marriage, free decent housing, P2,000 monthly food subsidy and P3,000 monthly health subsidy for all are among the goals of socialist labor leader and presidential aspirant Leody De Guzman and his vice presidential running mate academician Walden Bello if elected in the 2022 polls.
Running under the Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM), the De Guzman-Bello tandem on Saturday, October 23, vowed to institute measures to fully achieve gender equality and gender rights and the empowerment of workers and farmers.
“If we believe in equality among people, I think it’s time to legalize same-sex marriage and divorce so everyone could enjoy the benefits and rights of being married,” De Guzman said.
The De Guzman-Bello tandem also wants to Impose price controls on oil, electricity, internet, water, farm inputs, and other basic commodities, free decent housing for the homeless, distribute for free all remaining lands under the agrarian reform, and prevent land conversions especially by large property firms.
They also target the imposition of a “wealth tax” on the 250 richest Filipinos with an additional 1-3 percent tax.
De Guzman stressed that only and Bello are the only candidates who could “confront the interests” of the billionaires and the ruling power.
The PLM has chided the Liberal Party (LP) for being “elitist” when they tried to talk to Vice President Leni Robredo for three months to forge a genuine united front of opposition forces but were only snubbed.
“Walang ibang kandidato sa pagkapangulo ang magbibitbit ng ganitong plataporma. Bakit? Dahil sila mismo ay bilyonaryo o umaasa sa suporta ng bilyonaryo upang manalo! (No other candidates for the presidency could advance this kind of platform. Why? Because they rely on the support of billionaires to win!),” De Guzman said. (ai/mtvn)
