Manhunt on vs drug pusher who escaped SoCot entrapment

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Authorities have launched a manhunt against a newly-identified drug pusher who eluded arrest in an operation in Tampakan town, South Cotabato province over the weekend.

Kath Abad, spokesperson of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region 12 (Soccsksargen), said Monday that pursuit operations were ongoing against suspect Jonathan Cabrera, 18, in coordination with local police units.

She said Cabrera was the main target of an entrapment around 6:15 p.m. last Saturday at a house in Sitio Lapurisima, Barangay San Isidro in Tampakan that was reportedly used as a drug den.

“It turned out that the house was also a drug den and there was an actual shabu session at that time,” she told reporters.

During the transaction, Abad said the suspect managed to escape along with two other persons after sensing the presence of the operatives composed of elements from PDEA-South Cotabato, Tampakan police station, and the South Cotabato police’s drug enforcement unit.

The two other suspects were identified as Carlo Superficial, 21, and Jerick Gernaldo, 20, both listed as drug users.

But Abad said the team arrested three other suspects at the scene, among them the owner of the house and Cabrera’s alleged cohort identified as Jonathan Catiil, 44.

Also nabbed were drug den “visitors” Rocky Antonio and Resin Rosales, both 24 years old.

Recovered at the house were 13 sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 10.1 grams with an estimated market value of PHP68,680 and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Prior to the operation, Abad said PDEA-South Cotabato agents subjected Cabrera to over three weeks of surveillance and were able to confirm his involvement in the illegal drug trade.

She said the suspect reportedly uses Catiil’s house, which is situated in a secluded area, to host the shabu sessions of his clients.

“He had been monitored to be operating in several barangays in Tampakan and our intelligence units are currently tracing his reported drug source, who is reportedly based also in the area,” she said.

Abad said appropriate charges will be filed against the suspects for violation of Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
