LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Saying that so many taxes have burdened the Filipino people, Team Abtik congressional aspirant Junex Doronio said that, if elected, he would file a “flat tax” bill that mandates a tax of no more than 10 percent of the salaries of employees and the net income of private businesses.

Doronio acknowledged that he got this inspiration from his old-time friend Bishop Grepor “Butch” Belgica and he was convinced of its practicality and benefits that will attract more investments and improve the quality of life of the Filipinos.

“If elected, I would push for the immediate passage of a Flat Tax bill. This will abolish all current taxes, including the e-VAT (expanded value-added tax) and the RPT (real property tax), and replace them with a 10-percent flat-rate system,” Doronio said.

He explained that having a flat tax will attract more investments and people will have increased take-home wages and savings.

Doronio added that with the scrapping of e-VAT, the prices of consumer goods will also go down.

A veteran journalist, Doronio noted that many developed countries, among them Russia, Singapore, China, and Hong Kong, had adopted a Flat Tax system, resulting in improved quality of life of their citizens. (ai/mtvn)
