Cops cite public cooperation in peaceful Undas in Surigao Sur

BUTUAN CITY – The Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDSPPO) has recognized the cooperation of residents for the peaceful observance of Undas in the area.

SDSPPO Director Col. Joseph Boquiren told Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that restriction of entry to cemeteries did not hinder the residents in the province from remembering their departed during the occasion from their homes.

“As the local government units issued guidelines for the Undas, residents in the province complied with these issuances and peacefully observed the All Saints Day and All Souls Day in their homes,” Boquiren said.

He also commended the different police stations in the province for doing their duties and responsibilities in restricting the public to visit the cemeteries.

“We mobilized around 200 police personnel to ensure the peaceful observance of Undas in Surigao del Sur,” Boquiren said.

Aside from the establishment of checkpoints, the municipal police stations also intensified their police presence and visibility in strategic areas and the cemeteries, he added.

Police Assistance Desks were also present in designated spots on national highways to assist travelers.

“We had a long vacation and residents from this province who are working in other towns, cities and regions went home to visit their families and ancestral homes. The desks were there to provide assistance during emergencies,” Boquiren said. (PNA)
