LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – Stressing anew that he never backs out from any fight, world boxing icon and presidential aspirant Senator Manny Pacquiao has junked calls for him to withdraw his candidacy and become the vice-presidential running mate of Vice President Leni Robredo.
The renowned world boxing icon said he really wanted to see genuine societal change as the Robredo camp has been tagged by some critics as “elitist”.
“Tunay na pagbabago ang gusto ko gawin sa ating bansa, hindi ‘yung puro pagpupulitika lang (I want real change for the country, not just politicking.),” Pacquiao said.
Aside from Robredo, Senator Imee Marcos also earlier said that the camp of her brother presidential aspirant former Senator Bongbong Marcos is also eyeing Pacquiao to be the “running mate of BBM.”
“Buo na ‘yung pasya ko na tuluy na tuloy ako, hindi ako umaatras sa laban. Hindi ako aatras sa aking kandidatura bilang Pangulo kasi alam ko malaki ang magagawa ko para sa ating bayan (My decision is final. I will run for president. I know I will contribute significantly to the country.),” Pacquiao said in a forum with Rotary Manila Club the first time he spoke before a big business group as a presidential aspirant.
Pacquiao also promised that his wife Jinkee will not be lavish like Imelda Marcos if ever his wife becomes the country’s, first lady.
“Hindi po, chine-check ko po ‘yan dahil kilala ko ‘yung asawa ko, hindi siya gano’n (No, I am checking that because I know my wife, she’s not like that.),” he assured.
During Pacquiao’s last fight against Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugás in Las Vegas in August, Jinkee posted on social media photos of her and her family and some netizens pounced on her supposedly expensive designer outfit. (ai/mtvn)
