MANILA — More than five hundred beneficiaries received on Friday (05 Nov 2021) cash assistance through the Labor Department’s TUPAD program on the agency’s latest payout operation in San Jose Del Monte Bulacan.

DOLE Sec. Silvestre Bello himself personally addressed the presence of the 519 beneficiaries and distributed their TUPAD payouts.

TUPAD is short for Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers, set in motion by DOLE amid the pandemic as a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be done.

The more than 500 displaced workers received at least P5,000 pesos apiece as compensation for their work rendered of at least 10 days of service.

In an interview with Maharlika TV News, a beneficiary Marilou Tugade expressed her gratitude to Labor Sec. Bello for the said program saying (in Tagalog) that it has been a big help to her family to be given the opportunity as TUPAD beneficiary especially for people like them who lost their source of income or jobs amid the pandemic.

Some persons with disabilities and members of the LGBT also thanked the organizers of TUPAD as they also received cash assistance and bicycles they can use in going to work or for food delivery services.

For his part, Sec. Bebot Bello III reminded the beneficiaries to make good use of their money and not allow anyone asking for commission or deductions because, he said, the cash for work program is for them to enjoy as direct assistance from the national government of President Duterte.

During his speech, Bello stressed that President Rodrigo Duterte instructed him to bring out the money of the agency to the people where it really belongs by engaging them through productive means or temporary employment just for them to get through the health crisis.

San Jose Del Monte Mayor Arthur Robes assisted Sec. Bello in the TUPAD cash payouts at the Convention Center together with other DOLE and OWWA officials and the local Public Employment Service Office (PESO) which contacted the rightful beneficiaries.
