LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – The age-old adage that “there are no permanent friends or enemies but only permanent interests” apparently holds true in the event that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will decide to run for president and face off presidential aspirant former Senator Bongbong Marcos that she had earlier pledged support.

Duterte-Carpio’s close ally Albay Rep. Joey Salceda revealed that since last May, the presidential daughter had always wanted to run for president.

“Based on our long-running chats, kilometric chats that she eyes… because I provided her with so many data, data analytics, and everything about her prospects. I think she will make a good president,” Salceda said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.

Sources said it will be unlikely that Marcos will slide down to run for vice president as he has gained momentum and now leading the surveys on the “presidentiables”

On the other hand, the PDP-Laban Cusi wing admitted that it will affect the current political landscape.

“PDP-Laban watches with keen interest the developments on Sara Duterte’s decision to withdraw her certificate of candidacy for Davao City Mayor, especially considering the public support she enjoys,” faction president Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said in a statement on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, November 9, Senator Bong Go earlier tearfully hinted that there could be changes in his 2022 plans, in light of Duterte-Carpio’s moves to withdraw her reelection bid at the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Davao City.

“Alam niyo, magulo ang pulitika. Maraming pangyayari sa mga nakaraang oras na ayaw ko, na mahirap niyong maintindihan. Itong kandidatura ko bilang bise presidente ay maaaring magbago,” Go said. (ai/mtvn)
