FOR a happier family—tops as Filipino source of happiness according to a recent survey—tend to the eastern part of the household… feng shui lore ascribes east as the seat of family matters.

Eastern downside, ah, it’s also a source of legal tangles and pesky nuisances like gossip mongers and brainless blabbermouths… with the sun at their backs, all they’ll see are shadows and darkness.

The east also covers nutrition, health, and healing—the sector where elaborate obeisance is done to the sun, pick one beacon light as apt for daily salutations… (1) Amaterazu-o-Kami who gifted mankind with rice and to whom ancient warriors paid homage to; (2) Och the angel who blesses those who invoke her with 600 years of robust health; (3) Sorath the sun demon who also bears the ominous 666 and presides over lottery draws, lotto 6/58 including… wink, blink, clink… location, location, location… place your bets (three sets would do nicely) at a lotto outlet dead-smack basking in the morning light to obtain a taint of Sorath’s infernal graces, mwa-ha-ha-haw!

Trees and three’s work best in the sunny side of the home where greens, blacks, blues, and browns can bring the best vibes… we’re talking about triad, troika, trinity, triumph, dong—Cantonese for a three-man assassination team—that bring in bounties, booties, and beauties.

Aside from trees, wood furnishings, herbs, bamboo, and baskets—in groups of three—can cure maladies and afflictions in the eastern section.

Sansevierias! A wondrous fibrous medicinal herb that we call hereabouts as dila ng biyenan o lengua de leon ought to work wonders, hurling back and maxing up the bad rap blabbermouths can dish out… mean talk flung boomerangs with treble force. And sansevierias are easy to grow, don’t need fussy upkeep and tending.

As luck would have it, the eastern portion is often chosen by birds to plunk down seeds of hagupit, literally “whip,” Leucosyke alba to botanists… a sure sign that the scheme of things entire is out to lash tongue-lashers off the eastern parts…

Bamboos are also very auspicious. Planted at the back of the property, bamboo braces the household with the strength of a mountain. Grown at the eastern section, bamboo is a source of dragon energies—and they’re the best– for wealth and opportunity.

Filipino folklore icons Malakas and Maganda also point up happiness in bamboos—they were in blissful union before the bamboo-section broke.

Family portraits in groups of three placed at the household’s eastern portion can also enhance happiness.

Such feng shui beliefs can hold true for most Filipino households… as for the House of Representatives, why, there’s honor among thieves, they’re a happy lot. (ai/mtvn)
