MANILA — Personnel from the senate’s security department has arrested Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp. executives Twinkle Dargani and her brother Mohit Dargani in Davao City on Sunday.

Reports say the Dargani siblings were about to flee to Malaysia.

Rene Samonte, the Senate sergeant-at-arms, claimed the siblings were apprehended at around 5 p.m. at Davao City Airport onboard a plane bound for Kuala Lumpur.

The Darganis were then taken into custody at the Senate.

They were cited for contempt and must be detained in the Senate as they accordingly refused to submit documents requested by the blue ribbon committee investigating the alleged anomaly.

The committee is headed by Sen. Richard Gordon.

With only a paid-up capital of only P625,000Pharmally is involved in the allegedly irregular transfer of at least P42 billion in pandemic funds from the Department of Health (DOH) to the Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM), which negotiated contracts for medical supplies with Pharmally and other companies.

The Senate blue ribbon committee is questioning why Pharmally managed to bag P11.7 billion worth of contracts to supply DOH with face masks and shields, personal protective equipment (PPE), and COVID-19 testing kits despite the low paid-up capital. (ai/mtvn)
