MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte has avoided a father and daughter collision course for the vice presidency against daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio as he filed for senator in next year’s election.
This was confirmed by Duterte’s longtime aide Sen. Bong Go on Monday, the last day of substitution of candidates for the 2022 elections.
Sara Duterte-Carpio filed two days earlier for the number two post instead of the presidency in the May 9 national and local elections.
To avoid any future complication to his candidacy, Duterte opted to file, though a representative, under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS) party, the ruling political party PDP-Laban said.
Duterte substituted the senatorial candidacy originally filed by one Mona Liza Visorde.
Senator Bong Go who originally filed for vice president moved a notch higher as he’s now gunning for the presidency.
Duterte’s senatorial bid proved to be the final nail that sealed year-long speculations among Filipinos on who’s who would run for this and that national position.
