MANILA — Long-time Supreme Court official Jose Midas Marquez has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the newest member of the high court Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said Tuesday.
Medialdea said Marquez, who is currently a Court Administrator Marquez, was handpicked by Duterte to replace Supreme Court associate justice Edgardo delos Santos, applied for early retirement in June.
Marquez is a certified court insider as he started his career at SC 20 years ago as a summer apprentice of an associate justice until he rose up to a regular law clerk of several justices and finally to his present position before PRRD’s appointment.
Marquez has also served as the spokesperson of the Supreme Court, chief of its Public Information Office, and Chief of Staff of the Office of the Chief Justice.
He got admitted into the Philippine Bar in March 1994. Marquez obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1987 and Juris Doctor degree in 1993, both from the Ateneo de Manila University. (ai/mtvn)
