Eat Bulaga! and Bubble Gang director Bert de Leon passes away

MANILA— Veteran and multi-awarded television director Bert de Leon has passed away on Saturday at 3:12AM. He was 74 years old.

The news came as his son Niko de Leon posted a sad note on his Instagram story: “Thank you for everything, Dad. Rest well now. I love you forever.”As of press time, there is no report yet on the cause of the director’s death, and there are still no details yet, too, from his bereaved family about his wake.

Some of the television projects Direk Bert handled were: Eat Bulaga!, Okay Ka Fairy Ko, 1 for 3, Daddy Di Do Du, Bubble Gang, andPepito Manaloto.

His last directorial assignment was Pepito Manaloto: Ang Unang Kuwento. He did his last taping July 2021 before his confinement in the hospital due to heart problem.

On July 17, 2021, the Direk Bert gave an update through an Instagram post. He stated in a long caption what he went through during the month which he dubbed “Jolly July,” including “1 heart attack, 1 ambulance ride, 12-hours in the ER, 1 angiogram/ angioplasty and 5 stents.”

When he came out of the hospital, he was tested positive for COVID-19 so he was confined again. This was the reason for the launching of a fund-raising event in October, which was spearheaded by Michael V, his lead actor in Bubble Gang and Pepito Manaloto.

Messages of condolences flooded the social media for the bereaved family of Director Bert de Leon who was a big loss to the television industry.
