MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed its deepest sympathy to the bereaved families of the members of the government troops who were killed in an armed encounter in Barangay Lonoy in Gamay town, Northern Samar.

The casualties were identified as Pat. Franklin Marquez, and Pat. Jimmy Caraggayan. Both were hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during the operation last Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Follow-up investigations for the possible arrest of the fleeing suspects from a Communist Terrorist Group are now being conducted.

“We express our condolences to the families of Pat. Franklin Marquez at Pat. Jimmy Caraggayan. Our snappy salute to the bravery they have shown. They were killed in the line of duty defending our country against insurgency. We would want to recognize the valor of four other troop members who were injured during the firefight,” PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said.

The PNP will be extending financial assistance to the families left by the two police personnel and medical aid for the PNP members who are still recuperating from the incident. (ai/mtvn)
