TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) regional office here is eyeing to administer coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines to 263,271 individuals daily during the three-day nationwide vaccination drive in Eastern Visayas from November 29 to December 1.
The DOH on Wednesday assured that there are enough vaccine supplies to inoculate more residents, including minors in the nationwide campaign.
“We will use vaccines that have been distributed to local government units. These are now stored in cold storage facilities. We expect more shipments this weekend for this purpose,” said Jelyn Lopez-Malibago, DOH Region 8 information officer in a message sent to reporters.
Of the 263,271 daily target individuals for vaccination, 6,148 are in Biliran, 24,822 in Eastern Samar, 93,104 in Leyte, 44,966 in Northern Samar, 54,505 in Samar, 22,508 in Southern Leyte, 7,003 in Ormoc City, and 10,215 in Tacloban City.
“We have conducted several meetings with all provincial local governments. We have requested them to come up with plans for this National Vaccination Day. We expect them to deploy vaccination teams to achieve targets and to increase vaccination sites if needed. They have to coordinate and maximize all networks for support during this vaccination activity,” Malibago added.
As of November 23, the region’s health workers have administered 2,693,056 doses of vaccines out of the 4,214,410 doses shipped to the region this year.
The region has recorded 51,236 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic broke out, including 50,501 recoveries, and 612 deaths. There are only 123 remaining active cases, representing 0.24 percent of the total. (PNA)
