Members of militant fisherfolk Pamalakaya massed up at the facade of the Chinese Consulate in Makati City on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, where they staged a mass action to protest against China on the high-handed water cannon incident a week ago in the West Philippine Sea.
The group demanded China respect the territorial waters of Filipinos and exercise freedom of navigation, especially on their fishing activities.
The Philippine boats were carrying food supplies for soldiers stationed at the disputed Second Thomas Shoal, which the Philippines calls the Ayungin Shoal.
No one was injured during the incident but Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin strongly condemned the incident, saying it “threatens the special relationship between Philippines and China.” He added, “The acts of the Chinese coast guard vessels are illegal,” in a Twitter thread.
